Oversized maple storage bins by Japanese craftsman Masashi Ifuji are made using the original Shaker templates and traditional techniques. The oval shape, copper rivets, and sturdy construction are inspired by the classic bent wood pantry boxes of the American Shakers. Maple is finished with a natural dye derived from logwood to achieve a pitch black finish.

From Ifuji, the small studio based in Nagano, Japan from craftsman Masashi Ifuji who reproduces old objects from various cultures as “a guide into tomorrow by making lessons of the past.” Unique and essential pieces are made by hand and designed to be used often.

Japanese craftsman and designer Masashi Ifuji creates in functional, handmade wooden objects using traditional techniques and minimal forms. Based in Matsumoto, Nagano prefecture, Ifuji specializes in oval storage bins using the original templates and time-honored methods from the 19th century Shaker communities of America.
