Artist
Paulette Tavormina
New York City-based artist Paulette Tavormina recalls the sumptuous detail of 17th century Old Master still life painters through her painterly photographs of lush compositions. In Photographs, her 2013 exhibition at MARCH, Tavormina composes food and flora reminiscent of the Dutch, Spanish, and Italian Golden Age, added collected “props” of butterflies, shells, dried flowers, and ceramics, imbuing each tableau with allegorical meaning. Using the contemporary medium of film photography and a modern approach, vibrant photographic still lifes appear as classical painting.
