Handmade in the United States.
Drawn from the kitchen collection of Alice Waters, this versatile and hard-wearing mortar and pestle is based on Alice’s own Japanese suribachi for making vinaigrettes, pounding sauces, and grinding spices. Reproduced to Alice’s exacting standards by ceramicist Colleen Hennessey in Mendocino, California, the ceramic mortar is paired with a hand-turned pestle made of solid, sustainably-sourced maple. Thrown and glazed by hand, each ceramic bowl displays slight variation.
