Made in California.

A set of rare antique dinner plates and bowls from Twentieth century American artist and studio potter Beatrice Wood. Stoneware finished with a unique handmade turquoise glaze. Wood’s signature style of glazing is characterized by an in-glaze luster that draws metallic salts to the surface by starving the kiln of oxygen.
Wood, who considered herself an accidental potter, first studied ceramics in order to create a teapot to match a pair of Baroque plates she purchased in the Netherlands. After years involved in the Dada movement in New York, Wood settled in Ojai, California near philosopher J. Krishnamurti where she perfected her throwing skills from her home studio. Her ceramic work was exhibited at the Los Angeles Musuem of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Set of four plates and four bowls. Plates and bowls vary in diameter.
Antiques and vintage may show signs of natural wear and age. For questions or further information contact info@marchsf.com.
